I can create new ones for me, they all start with myUsername_, though I
think that's a cpanel feature.

You should be happy that you have a good host, all that I have seen don't
allow users to create databases at all, only tables in their own database and
if they want extra databases they charge extra each month.
Good luck for me is that I do run my own "server", so I don't have that problem.

10 tables in one database, or 5 tables each in 2 databases. There
wouldn't be any noticeable difference.
