I've installed PHP, but when I try to access a .php file it opens up
what looks to be a DOS shell and outputs there instead of returning
HTML to the browser.

I'm running QnE Web Server on an XP Pro box just to start learning
about PHP.

Is this config issue of some kind? The behaviour is the same when
accessed thru Firefox or IE.

Are you sure you are requesting the page through your webserver and not by
double clicking it?
