I started with (O'Reilly www.oreilly.com) "Programming PHP" by R.
Lerdorf & K. Tatroe and that one helped a lot, but I needed later some
more training and have found "PHP Cookbook" by D. Sklar & A.
Trachtenberg (also O'Reilly) heplful too. And some other, but choice
depend on what are your plans in future.

I used melonfire's articles for starters, then used online
documentation.

i was in your position about a month ago. i bought PHP 5 by the 'in
easy steps' series and its absolutly brilliant. it not only teaches u
php, just shows u how to set up a mysql/php server on linux and
windows, along with intergrating php into mysql and xml.

www.ineasysteps.com

only about =A310, 15eu, $20 as well!
