Author Good Family Portal System?

Here's what I want:

1. Simplicity. I basically want to be able to post news on the front
page, similar to a blog.

2. Good Image Gallery. I would like something that is simple to
navigate and supports captions.

Bonuses:
1. Random picture module on home page
2. The ability for visitors to leave comments (preferrably without
logging in)
3. Skins

Well, in your case, I would recommend Coppermine Photo Gallery
(http://coppermine.sourceforge.net), the version to integrate with PHP-Nuke
(http://www.phpnuke.org), which I also suggest. PHP-Nuke is an excellent
modular content management system including a news feature, and Coppermine
has an integration release for it. Both are themable/skinnable.

If you do opt for phpnuke, don't forget to also install "AdminSecure" and
"NSN Sentinel", goto http://www.nukecops.com for more info.
