Possible BC break patch for Auth

I'm after some opinions on a patch submitted for Auth.

The patch closes potential problems with SQL injections in the
database containers. It does not break BC for folks using the options
as intended, but will break it for people working around the problem
themselves or exploiting the problem to do funky things.

Basically I'm asking can I merge this patch in the 1.3 or 1.4 series
or must it wait for a new 2.x version.
