Hi all,

It is somewhat crazy notice, but due to the release schedule of PHP 5.1,
PEAR 1.4.0 stable will be released on Sunday. We are going to release
the 1.4.0RC1 as soon as possible. All but major issues will wait until
1.4.1. Please please upgrade to cvs as soon as possible and try things out.

If basic operation looks good, it will be released and the .phars will
be created.

Please do not publicize this move outside the mailing list until we are
sure we have a working product, but if you know anyone who would like to
help out with testing, encourage them to try to break PEAR.

Not to get too mushy, but I would like to thank in no particular order:

- Bertrand Gugger for finding the most incredibly remote edge cases and
finding solutions
- Pierre for recent activity
- Clay for testing out new features
- Toby for pushing 1.4
- Klaus and Helgi for help with testing, particularly the web side of
things
- Heino Gehlsen for many brilliant offlist ideas that made it into the
design
- Davey for testing and suggesting fixes, and PEAR_Server work
- Arnaud for testing and moral support :)
- Jan Schneider for testing and finding bugs from the beginning
- Anatoly for helpful bugs (even if I found the subjects acidic)
- anyone who *ever* emailed me with an idea, reported a bug, or argued
about how features should be implemented. You've all made PEAR a safer
place to live ;)

Greg
