For the record here is the info from the home page

"A generic class that allows a user to use a single set of functions to perform
encryption and decryption. The class prefers to use native extensions like
mcrypt, but will automatically attempt to load crypto modules written in php if
the requested algorithm is unsupported natively or by extensions.

**NEWS** After a long hiatus, this is an active project again. Updates will be
posted as I get back up to speed. Please contact the project lead with
questions or suggestions."

This was started in September 2003, the last NEWS statement is from october
2004. I tried to contact the maintainer Tim Thorpe (blushift at netins dot net)

I have therefore deleted the package in an effort to prune pearweb.

Arnaud.
