Afaik, Pierre is the one in control of that. He's the one doing the
decisions. From earlier discussions on the lists, I gather that he
doesn't want to bundle releases that have not been proven stable. This
means that the bundled versions will always be a bit older than the
latest releases, even when the PHP release is first released.

pierre: Subject: PHP and pear-bundle
pierre: cannot post from here
pierre: can you point him to:
pierre: http://cvs.php.net/co.php/php-src/p...-list.php?r=1.7
pierre: note that Pager will be droped with the next release of the
webfrontend (for the next php5 release, time limited...)
pierre: PHP5 stable or rcwhatever

I understand that, but I don't agree that an older release
is more stable "just because it's older", an eye should
be kept on the changelog too, on relevant bug fixes...

I agree with you there :-) This decision should be passed on to QA once
the team is formed. After all, that's what QA is all about....

yeah, Pierre already told me, and as I said I'm fine with that.
But until the next webfrontend version is bundled (and Pager
dropped), the Pager package must be upgraded, because
the bundled version *doesn't work* with php5

But what does this have to do with bundling packages? Aren't just one
or two vital packages required anymore, and for the others the latest
stable will be downloaded upon go-pear? I thought that was what
Pierre intended when we last talked about it.

The short term goal is to have nothing but PEAR itself by default.
However the webfrontend is very popular, as stated before it could
be good to keep it in the distros. That means to keep IT and
Netuseragent (dunno yet if it's safe or painless to do the browser
checks only using JS ;) ).

It is not taken in account by the building system.
PHP5RC3 is out, and it's a bit late now :-(
I assume that pear installations done via the webinstaller
will get the updated list, but why should the pear bundle
(the one inside the snaps, I mean) have the old one?

see for yourself... PHP5RC3 bundles all the packages I listed
in my previous email, including the non-working version of Pager
:-(

I do not have any control on the build system. It should use this
file. If it is not the case these days, I will beg the right people
tomorrow.

Thanks Pierre.
I ask/suggest one more thing... it would be nice if the pear bundle
(the one in the snaps) was in control of pear-qa or pear-group
people :-)
