ASCII output for Image::3D

I've been looking at the Image::3D package this w

and seem to have
figured out quite a bit about generating objects and using the different
output drivers to create image files. One driver, 'ascii', seems to
generate a lot of garbage for me. Is it supposed to do that? If so,
what is the practical usage of this?

Sample output from the ascii driver:

[2J[0;37m##[0;37m##[0;37m##[0;37m##
[0;37m##[0;37m##

(and this goes on an on...)
