Doesn't the bug say that the newest PHP5 release fixes this?

Not that I am aware of, getting such an upgrade would not be possible
where I am atm.

Latest release could mean for anything. Besides only people who can
convince their admins to upgrade to get a PEAR package working will it
then work for. I've made myself a patch in the meantime however its
quite unlikely the upgrade will happen. I am finishing up there soon so
I was hoping to keep everything in sync, as I doubt anyone there will
be able to mend something on a package upgrade :D
