LiveUser and LDAP

I am currently researching the Liveuser package in hopes that I will be
able to authenticate the users of my application through
LiveUser->PEAR:Auth->LDAP and manage the permissions with LiveUser. I've
spent about a day reading the wiki, and the article by jystewart.

I have some questions.

1. What $config options do I need to setup PEARAuth and LDAP?

2. If I can manage to figure out how to do authorization this way, how
can I assign these authenticated users to groups and assign them
permissions?

I will have more questions tomorrow, when I'm not completely fried.
