So you can use nntp to post to the mailing list? If so ... how?
I thought the Newspart was readonly ...

You can use the MS OUtlook Newsreader which is part of Outlook and Outlook
Express. Then set up a new news account for news.php.net and subscribe to
your favourite newsgroups (e.g. php.pear.general etc.).

Happy posting ;)

Well ... actually I hate Outlook ... I am happy to have Xnews (with the
help of hamster to make it offline-able) which has way better editor
and newsreader functions than Outlook and is faster.
I know pretty well how News work - but when I tried last time I could
not post to the pear list ...

But it seems to be not the whole truth ... you still need to kind of
sign up to be able to post ...

Hi Daniel,

sorry, didn't want to doubt your news knowledge ;)
I am not subscribed to any of the PHP mailing lists and am able to post on
the ones I've tried so far.

it's OK ... :-)

I got an Email starting like that:
| Because you are not subscribed to "pear-general@pair1.php.net"
| using the email address "nix@daniu.de", your message has been held
| until you can confirm that you are a real person sending mail.

I just wonder why there is still so much spam in the mailinglist or
does that come directly?

probably you ust forgot that you subscribed because later it says:

| After we have received your confirmation, "nix@daniu.de"
| will be added to the list of pre-approved mail addresses for all
~~~
| of the PHP mailing lists, your original message will be delivered,
| and future emails from that address will be posted to the list
| automatically.
Maybe. I *was* subscribed to the PEAR mailing list - so maybe my email
address is still recognized as valid for posting. But I can post on php.db
as well and never subscribed to that mailing list.
Everybody keeps saying this....why doesn't anyone just try it?
Just set up your news client to go to news.php.net, subscribe to a
group, and post!
I regularly use the NNTP gateway to read. And no, you can't post. At
least, mozilla thunderbird spurts out this error:
posting failed - invalid from.
I can, and regularly do, post via the pear-general email address.
All PHP.net email addresses are centrally protected. You need to prove
you're alive before any mail/post from you wil lgo trough.
Once you do taht though, you should ahve no problem either posting in the
newsgroups or mailing the lists.
Yes, you can. I'm posting via Thunderbird right now. Have you set up a
from address in Thunderbird? If not, that's probably your problem.
Yup. But now that you said it works, I tried a few variations. It seems
the NNTP gateway chokes on the accented é in my name. It's fixed now.
Thanks.
