August 17-20 Cultural Center of the Philippines

This festival gathers dance artists who have been producing and
creating exciting, innovative work in contemporary dance. This is the
first independent contemporary dance festival and is an initiative of
World Dance Alliance Philippines Choreographers� Network,
presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and with the
generous support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
Contemporary dance has developed in �alternative�
conditions, venues. Thus, this festival attempts to capture the work
in their original contexts, in the intimate spaces for which they were
created. Experience the works in the various spaces of the Cultural
Center of the Philippines.

August 17-18, 2006
Summer begins and ends as you wish
Green Papaya Art Projects

Summer begins and ends as you wish examines the temporal and spatial
politics of a live performance en route the first modern ballet
Nijinsky�s Afternoon of a Faun. An attempted deconstruction,
this solo piece tackles the promise and disillusion of seduction via
little take home packages, you can fold, keep, read or even throw
away.

Volunteers for Comatose
Dancing Wounded Contemporary Dance Commune

Volunteers for Comatose essays in five solo multi-media pieces the
idea that �ugly is beautiful�. Bold, new images of the
human body are presented, questioning our concepts of beauty.

Carmen de la Cruz
Airdance
8pm / Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo
(ticket P300)

Carmen de la Cruz is a Pinoy-retelling of �Carmen,�
that famous story of love and unbridled passion, now set in a
1970�s Manila ring in sex, drugs, religion and politics. This
sensuous deconstruction of a timeless crime of passion has an eclectic
style and daring physicality.
Dancing from the Academe / UP Dance Company / 930pm / Main Lobby
Imagining the shape of the future, this program is where dance
education meets challenges in choreographic discourse. Innovative and
repertory works showcase ways to looking at history and the body, and
context in creation.

Crossing Borders
Chameleon Dance Theatre

Dance has always lived in a homeland without borders and new work by
emerging choreographers attempt to cross all borders in form, in idea,
in desire. Crossing Borders is where new meanings emerge.

Over 35 and dancing/Order for Masks
Dance Forum

Poetry and poetics -- the poetics of being over 35 years old and
dancing, and the poetry of Ms. Virginia Moreno, stand back to back in
this program. Moreno�s poem �Order for Masks� as
dance - as dancers over 35 articulate their aesthetics. Presented by
Dance Forum, curation by Myra Beltran.

Wi fi Body Gala / 8pm / Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (ticket P300)
Working autonomously and independently but connected to the greater
idea of contemporary dance, this is the wi fi body of independent dance
artists, celebrating and converging in this gala. World Dance Alliance
Choreographers� Network with guest performance and choreography
by Douglas Nierras� Powerdance, James la Forteza, Alden
Lugnasin and many more.

Emerging Choreographers / 930pm / Main Lobby (FREE)
It�s a party and a jam! Young, emergent voices in contemporary
dance showcase their work and jam with each other. Come dance with
us!
