| Hi,
Wolfgang Fahl, technical director at BITPlan (http://www.bitplan.com) -
a german software company specializing on code generation technologies.
Our product smartGENERATOR has been developed since 1996 and it is able
to create software source code from object oriented modelling results in
the standard (UML - see http://www.uml.org). UML has orginally been
created by Rational Software Cooperation in the beginning of the 90th.
Rational was recently bought by IBM for some 1,5 billion dollars since
the big players IBM, Microsoft and Borland as well as the open source
community all see a trend that software modelling is a must for the
furture and a fast growing market. Currently only some 10% of all
software developers in the world use this technology - the number
expected to be rising to over 80% during the next few years.
BITPlan's smartGENERATOR already supports half a dozen programming
languages from C over C++, C# and COBOL to Java, Objective-C and Pascal.
The newest addition to our line of code generators is PHP. We do not
only generate code for PHP but are able to get full applications going
from a UML model by applying the Model Driven Arcitecture
(http://www.omg.org/mda/) approach.
A first approach to creating PHP code from UML models has been done a
few months ago by some french students which can be found at
http://www.phpedit.net/products/xmi2php/
This approach is far too primitive though. There are some 40-50 object
oriented concepts to be supported before a true UML model to code
transformation is finished and the xmi2php is a far cry from doing this.
BITPlans's has aquired the domain uml2php.com for marketing purposes -
we also have half a dozen other domains like uml2code.com or
uml2csharp.com.
Our contacts will be:
Claudia Schmitz-Rode (cs@bitplan.com) for the Marketing part
Wolfgang Fahl (wf@bitplan.com aka me) for the technical and strategic part.
Our short term goals are:
- getting the prototype application (a cancer treatment tracking
database) for the European Society for Therapeutic Oncology and
Radiotherapy (http://www.estro.be) running
- creating a product uml2php that generates code from UML models from
the main UML vendors like IBM Rational (http://www.rational.com) and
Gentleware (http://www.gentleware.com) as a community version
- creating a more sophisticated product that allows generation of whole
applications much like codecharge (www.codecharge.com) does from
Database definitions - see http://ibiza.bitplan.com for the ESTRO
example - use demo/demo as username/password ...
- adding a Graphical User Interface editor that is platform independent
and can be used with multiple target platforms
we'd like to spread the news about uml2php in the PHP community as soon
as possbile ....
We are looking forward to your response.
Best regards
BITPlan GmbH
Claudia

| Hi Claudia,
The plans are interesting. Does that uml2php going to a couple of open
source software plugins for these programs, or some commercial stuff?
[Please use 'reply all', so others will also receive the reply]
