Author WinXP command prompt window scrolls very slow

I just loaded WinXP on my wife's computer. I hate that OS.

I just noticed that the command prompt window scrolls
real slow. I did some searching and don't see an easy way
to correct this. Does anybody have a recommendation
on how to fix it?

Obviously, I could just output my Perl output to a text file,
but I'd like a way to fix the cmd window so I wouldn't
need a separate list of perl scripts to run on the WinXP
computer.

Perl scripts run real fast as long as there is no output to
the cmd window. Even with output, if you have a
clear screen the output is real fast to fill up the window,
but then slows way down to print line-by-line, I guess
so you can read the output.

This only happens on XP. Win2000 cmd window is
super fast. I guess this is another "feature" MS made
to screw things up. I sure wish I could get the Win2000
cmd window over to XP, but just copying it over
produces the same effect.

I don't see any easy fixes, but wanted to throw it out
to the group.

So? It works for billions of other people and companies, what does that say=
? They are _all_ 'uninformed' and you are?
Relevance to the issue?

I use CentOS and WinXP, and do not have your issue with Perl or the shell i=
n general under WinXP.

Sigh...
Reality: Your win2k machine is setup properly and your WinXP machine is not=
.. Period.

That clearly shows your lack of knowledge on the two platforms and with win=
dows in general.

Suggestion: Instead of bashing MS because you think it's the leet thing to =
do if you are an open source advocate and simply because you see others do =
it and don't have a good reason yourself but want to be on that band wagon,=
indicate as we now see: you aren't familiar with that platform and ask for=
help in an adult fashion.

I have encountered this situation more than once and it has always been the=
result of incorrect graphics drivers, or more to the point, drivers aren't=
loaded and the OS is in simple VGA mode. The machine may even have a drive=
r loaded such that it can raise the resolution up to something decent but t=
he driver may still be incorrect. My most recent look at this was an HP DL1=
45 that had Windows XP on it, but the video driver wasn't configured proper=
ly. It was running in 1280x1024 but using the shell was intolerable.

Good luck,
jlc

Thanks for the info. It was very helpful to me. I thought for
a moment I had trashed your mama :-)

I'm not just parrotting the anti MS attitude here - my
contempt for MS is genuine. Maybe this newly
purchased copy of XP OEM will work for my wife.
If it does it will be the first XP that has worked for
me, including the terrible version we have at work.

I'm surprised to see the CMD window slow scroll
problem is gone. It must be something I did, since I
had MS Update turned off, but I'm not sure what I
did right. We are also running in 1280x1024.

My searches of this problem led me to believe that it was
endemic to the WinXP OS. I now see that it is not and I
appreciate your help in figuring this out.
