Author A simple Linux/Perl serial IO routine

Anybody know of or have a Perl routine (or even a callable exe) to allow
for simple serial IO from Linux? All I need is a plain data stream with
no handshaking. In fact, all I need to do is just send a few bytes at a
time.

I have found a couple of serial com PM's but they are apparently made for
intergalactic sized communications since they are about a thousand times
bigger than my entire perl program. I am converting an old (very VERY
old) turbo c DOS program, which is no problem except that writing to the
serial port on DOS took about 5 bytes and was totally trivial.

Thanks
