Author 2 questions from a Perl Novice

I've been working with Perl for about 4 ws and have nearly finished the program that I learned the language in order to build. However, I need a few questions answered in order to finish.

1) What are the basic perl commands that can be used, without the help of any module other than File::Path, to unzip a file? What about re-zipping the same file once the materials inside have been edited?

2) As a veteran programmer of QBasic, I am used to being able to use multi-dimensional arrays. My current program could be dramatically improved if there is a way to do two-dimensional arrays in perl. Is there one?

Much thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with either of these questions.
