Functional Title: Project Manager
Overall Experience: 04-06 Yrs.
Position Description: Acts as Project Manager (Dynamic Content)
responsible for the methods and standards supporting content
acquisition and production processes, including content normalization,
content conversion to structured formats, and content transformation
for dynamic publishing, as well as other production and content
management initiatives at the segment level. The Project Manager is
additionally responsible for the implementation and maintenance of
those processes and standards. The Project Manager will coordinate some
initiatives with other business units at the segment and group levels.
The Digital Publishing Specialist is responsible for the ongoing
research of existing and future publishing technologies, perform
comparative/competitive analyses of these technologies, and make
recommendations for the adoption of best of of breed tools and
technologies to MHE business units.
2. ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Responsible for project management and tracking of XML workflow,
conversion, and proof-of-concept projects, including liaison with
vendors and involved business units.
Perform XML workflow related quality assurance and vendor certification
activities.
Participate in the requirements analysis and definition of
specifications based on strategic directions for publishing workflows.
Responsible for working collaboratively with production departments of
various business units and vendors to integrate proper and consistent
application of proprietary uniform mark-up codes (UMC) in order to
produce correctly normalized content
Responsible for managing all aspects of integration with UMC, including
dissemination of standards, training, working group(s) intranet user
forum, and related activities
Responsibilities include conducting presentations to communicate
effectively to MHE production groups the need to employ
highly-specific, semantically-oriented information types and markup
languages
Responsibilities include creating and maintaining instructional
materials to encompass electronic preparation of normalized text and
art.
3. OTHER REQUIRED ACCOUNTABILITES:
Support the development of a technology lab to enable the ongoing
research and testing of existing and future publishing technologies
Participate in the research and testing of digital publishing tools
that support the objectives of MHE persistent XML workflows as directed
Participate in the planning, development and execution of
proof-of-concept projects
Based upon research, testing and/or participation in proof-of-concept
projects:
Create and distribute white papers on the state of publishing
technologies
Make recommendations for the adoption of best of breed tools and
technologies
Help define guidelines and standards for recommended workflows

Additional Information: KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience working with XML files
3-5 years of composition and prepress experience, preferably in the
educational market
3-5 years experience using and configuring extensions and plug-ins,
which must include math plug-ins such as PowerMath
2+ years creating production templates
3-5 years experience with Macintosh hardware/software; must be able to
support and maintain Mac OS X machines
Experience with DTP workflow tools such as Autopage, QPS, K4, Woodwing,
and TypeFi is preferred
Some experience using languages such as Applescript, Xtags is preferred
Around 3 years of experience in Adobe In-Design and Adobe Photoshop
