| Position Summary:
The Architect is responsible for Company-wide system and storage design.
This includes resolving issues
of system integration, compatibility and multiple platforms. The Architect
develops standards and policies
for architecture such that system performance is reliable and of high
caliber.
He/she also researches new technologies and evaluates the usefulness
to and priority for Lafarge.
The Architect approves all technology changes and works with the operational
team to implement
changes successfully.
The Architect is the highest level of infrastructure support and is
responsible for engaging and
managing vendors as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
-Designs the LNA architecture according to Company needs and best practices
-Implements and manages effective governance practices
-Performs ongoing capacity planning
-Develops standards and policies
-Performs feasibility analysis on potential future projects to management
-Ensures technical correctness and completeness of the integrated system
design, including the
work of others
-Provides Third Level Expert Technical Support
-Continuously monitors new technology and enhancements in the marketplace
-Travel requirement: 20%

Management
Relationships with Others Jobs:
-Works daily with the other members of the Infrastructure Architecture
Team to ensure there is a
cohesive company-wide architecture in place
-Works in conjunction with the Infrastructure Support Team such that
reliable system performance
is achieved
-Works regularly with the Application Architecture Team ensuring that
the technology required for
ERP applications is in place and operational
-Works regularly with the Application Support Teams within Corporate
and the various product-lines
to help determine solutions that meet business needs
Qualification Profile:
Education and Work Experience:
-Bachelor degree in information technology or a related field
- 7- 11 years of successful project management experience including
management of external resources
- 3-5 years practical experience as a System Architect
-Prior experience working in a large multinational corporation would
be an asset
Knowledge and Skills:
-Effective communicator (verbal, active listening, facilitation, written)
-Excellent negotiator capable of understanding multiple points of views.
-Capable of driving the organization towards consensus in architecture
standards and technology strategy
-Strong conflict resolution skills and able to effectively deliver
feedback and guidance to others
-Team player, resolution focused, and customer service oriented
-Strong ability to understand how to leverage technology to meet business
needs
Technology-Specific Requirements:
UNIX Servers & Storage
-HP-UX, Superdomes, XP series SAN
-Clustering and High Availability, MC Service Guard, Replication, Fail-
Over/Restore
-Expert Knowledge of Application Architectures, Tuning and Optimization
-Strong understanding of Unix Security, vulnerability assessments
-J2EE and Web Services
