| Our client is looking for an infrastructure specialist who will focus
on the installation, configuration and
monitoring of server operating systems. You will work with external
service providers to
maintain corporate servers. You will also work with various client
groups to determine processing
needs and implement solutions that will address these objectives.
You will develop and maintain
recovery processes that support the clients DRP and BCP capability.
Your have current knowledge of major network operating systems software
such as NetWare
and Windows advance server, and extensive knowledge and experience
with AIX.
You have a basic knowledge of communication protocols such as TCP/IP
and Ethernet.
You have maintained and configured server hardware and software for
P-series servers
(including HMC, NIM) and you have practical and working knowledge of
interfacing to SANs
and other external storage technology.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a current reliable, recoverable and responsive server infrastructure
environment
to support users requirements
- Maintains operating systems software for multiple platforms at appropriate
currency levels
- Develops, implements and maintains system management processes and
procedure to
ensure a reliable systems environment for users/
- Maintains the quality of systems changes by reviewing and approving
system change
requests for technical feasibility, testing adequacy,
risk levels, back out and recovery
procedure, and estimated down times and signing off
on the completion of
change implementation.
- Participates in major functional are project to provide technical
consultation and
develop management and administrative procedures
- Provides server performance and monitoring and capacity planning
- Define server hardware and software requirements
- Provide infrastructure support to application projects
- Evaluates, implements and maintains server hardware and software
(ie operating system, micro-code, system software etc)
- Maintains storage subsystem (SAN, VTS, HSM, TSM) for all platforms
- Develops and maintains recovery procedures and processes to support
DRP and BCP capability
Requirements
- Minimum - four to six years progressive experience in Information
Services
- Extensive knowledge of server operating systems, especially IBM's
AIX
- Extensive knowledge of p-series hardware, software and utilities
- Knowledge of Microsoft and Novell server software and utilities
- Vendor management skills
- Extensive knowledge of storage concepts and practices including backup
and recovery
- Knowledge of storage hardware and software technologies
(RAID, SAN, NAS, Tape etc) and utilities.
- Knowledge of mainframe, cisco and Intel environments would be an
asset
- Strong communication (oral and written) skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Strong customer focus
- A team player that is service oriented
Education
- Minimum - Three year college or university degree/diploma, with a
major in computer science
