Oracle, Dell extend global pact in India
New Delhi,
November 25, 2004
Oracle and Dell have extended their global alliance in India, to
provide customers with a single point of contact for their Linux and
Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) computing requirements.
The partnership will help customers deploy Oracle products on Dell
servers running Linux, Oracle India managing director Shekhar Dasgupta
said. "Dell and Oracle have long supported a low-cost, standards-based
approach to enterprise computing."
According to IDC's latest research 'Linux Migration Multi-Client
Study' every major vertical in India is optimistic about deploying
Linux platform over the next few years.
Currently, 27% of companies surveyed have deployed Linux on their
infrastructure while 47% are evaluating.
The research also showed that Indian companies look towards
availability of applications and tools plus stability of platform
being the key adoption factors.
Currently, Oracle is certified on Dell PowerEdge servers and these
servers are available in India with Oracle pre-installed from the
factory.
Unlike manual onsite installation, Dell's factory integration ensures
consistency for any number of servers a customer might require,
thereby reducing errors due to manual installations.
Under the agreement, Dell will rely on its strength in direct sales to
provide customers in India with enterprise solutions integrating both
hardware and software. To achieve the goal, both companies have put
dedicated teams in place to collaboratively carry out activities
including cross training, joint marketing and sales tracking.
