"That's funny" in the sense of "I didn't expect that".
And, yes, that's often the precursor to "Eureka".
Of course, like every aphorism, reality is far more varied than this
might suggest. Though I'd say that the "Eurekas" that didn't follow a
"that's funny" are usually already taken by somebody else.
