And what is the latest/recommended Java version
required by Eclipse ?

Thanks for any feedback,

I'd just install the latest Java.

And I'd spring for more memory, at least 1 gigabyte of it. The more, the
better. Java opcodes are so flabby and poorly optimized that any editing
will cause eternal memory thrashing, without enough memory to store entire
images.

I run Netbeans acceptably - on a Centrino Duo with 1 gig of memory, a 2.5
gigahertz clock, and 150 gig hard drive.
