We have just started a new group dedicated to
software architecture on Google. It is called,

software.eng.architecture

We welcome contributions on this topic.

Thanks,

Richard Riehle

Is there any reason why this was not been created as a proper newsgroup?

I second that comment. Please create a comp.software-eng.architecture =
if you want us to participate. I have a Google account but use it only =
for Google Talk, not for news groups. I use my regular home ISP account =
for that, and they will not recognize new groups that do not conform =
with the Usenet newsgroup naming convention.

I agree. Traditional newsgroups are much easier to read than web-based
portals and blogs. While I'll use Google for searching, you won't find
me using their access to groups.

The creation of a new group in the big eight (comp.*, humanities.*,
misc.*, news.*, rec.*, sci.*, soc.*, and talk.*) is not at all creatable
"just so".

This is also the reason for the existence of the alt.* hierarchies et al.

Just realizing that this was not very constructive. Let's do it better:

Subscribe to "news.groups.questions". There you find 2 threads by Jon
Bell (July 10th and 12th). Read them in order to know how to propose new
groups.

Regards
//Herbert

alt.* groups still conform to the naming convention and are picked up by =
most ISPs. A Google group software.eng.architecture will not be =
accessible to anyone except Google users.
