Q: continious downloading

Hi everyone,
when I start downloading anything and in the middle of process (lets say at
43% downloaded) I loose my connection I cannot just continue downloading the
program the next time I'm connected (starting at 43%) but I have to download
everything from the beginning so I need to get a free software that would
allow me continious download.
There, I hope you understood my problem and that you can advise me on which
free program to download.
