| WinA&D 5.0
Excel Software started shipping WinA&D 5.0, an engineering tool for
system analysis, requirements management, software models, code
generation, reengineering and scriptable project reports. The new
release adds system models, simulation and dynamic charts to its suite
of software engineering capabilities. Other enhancements include a
project scrapbook, flow, store and external entity Detail dialogs for
structured analysis & design, user-interface improvements and new
project reports.
We live in a world of systems driven by cause and affect. Those systems
include financial, production, inventory, biological, chemical,
thermodynamic and workflow. Systems can be modeled as Causal Loop
Diagrams with nodes representing system variables and connecting lines
representing causal effects. The changing value of one variable can
cause another to increase or decrease as described by equations.
Understanding how a system really works is the first step towards using,
improving, automating or explaining it to others.
WinA&D presents an easy, integrated solution to model dynamic systems as
Causal Loop Diagrams, parameterize the model with data and equations,
run time simulations and present the system behavior with live charts,
graphs and tables. Data files can provide input data to models or
capture output results. The integrated Data File editor makes it easy
to edit data items of type Variable, Array and List or import/export
data to a spreadsheet, database or charting application as a comma or
tab delimited file.
WinA&D 5.0 adds a new Project Scrapbook window. The scrapbook is a
community resource that anyone on the project can concurrently view or
edit. It provides a convenient placeholder for project artifacts
created from any application. Typical examples include marketing
specifications, graphic illustrations, project schedule, software
models, tables, graphic charts of simulation results or test plans.
Scrapbook items can be organized, copied, pasted, printed or
double-clicked to view and edit the original document in its native
application.
WinA&D windows now have mouse scroll wheel support and allow a table of
contents to be dragged open or closed on all diagram windows. The
built-in scripting language adds tags for math functions, scrapbook
items, dynamic charts and reading and writing of variables in data
files, plus new standard reports for sharing project data.
Reengineering enhancements make it easier to generate meaningful models
from code by clustering object-oriented classes on diagrams based on
user selected relationships.
WinA&D runs on Windows 95 through XP and is available in a Standard
edition at $495, Desktop edition at $1295 or Developer edition at $1995.
