| Hi,
I am a software engineer (female) in my mid twenties.
After 2 years of experience in this industry in mainframe I took a break for personal reasons and after 1 year, I started working again, but in a technology which I havent worked before. Got this since I was a mainframe resource.
I have been working almost 14 hours everyday for the past 5 months and i am really depressed and feel like ending my career in IT. I just do not like my job and i am the technical lead which adds to the pressure when my team in Asia does not perform well. Everything ends up on me and I stay late nights or night outs.
My manager is very inconsiderate and even though I tell him the amount of time I spend for this and that I cannot meet the deadlines, he just sticks to his deadlines. I just avoid him all the time and I am not a person who likes to miss my deadlines. I am tired and sleepless because of all this. There is no one I can complain to since my manager will make it look at seem like my inexperience. I have taken my time off so many times since I hate going to office. There are peers working in other projects who are very selfish and gossip a lot. I cannot handle so much of pressure
None of the advice helps me. Is there any way I can look for something less stressful in IT or make a career move? I am not confident of moving to a different company because I have just 3 years of experience and not that good in technologies. I would prefer to work as a Business analyst since for 1 month I had liked that job. Please help | |

14 hours a day for 5 months is terrible. You need to throttle back. You will crash and burn at that rate. If you are doing 2 jobs, try just doing one - the company will need to adapt. Depending on 14 hour days is unrealistic. A smart employer knows this isn't sustainable and will help you. A stupid employer is just taking advantage, and you don't want to kill yourself to enable that. |
