Programming Forum and web based access to our favorite programming groups. So we're decided then. http://history.perl.org/PerlTimeline.html will remain untouched, to remain the sole property of Elaine Ashton. Meanwhile, the Neanderthals will be working on a new collaborative, current history that belongs to the community. This history page is at http://www.perlfoundation.org/perl5/index.cgi?history This provides a number of benefits: * History is owned by the community, not a person. * Easier and better linking to the topics discussed. * Near-zero barrier to contributions. * Many new topics will get created in the process of creating the history, so the Perl 5 wiki improves as well. I believe this should leave everyone happy. The Neanderthals will get a newer, better, shared historical document that can benefit from the inclusions of everyone's work. Meanwhile, Elaine can sit back and snicker, knowing that the Neanderthals will never do the work. It's a win for everyone involved. I thank Elaine for providing the catalyst for this new endeavor. xoxo, Andy -- Andy Lester => andy@petdance.com => www.petdance.com => AIM:petdance

As I said, I was interested in just about anything but a wiki until somebody coughed up some actual sort of work. If you want to be an XXXXXXX, well, there's a reason you're commonly referred to as Andy XXXXhead. > I thank Elaine for providing the catalyst for this new endeavor. Yes, by saying no to a wiki after having my project insulted but leaving the door open to anyone who actually had something to offer, you've chosen the usual path, the one I could count on which is to fork it, shit on it and generally leave it once the dust has settled. You don't need to thank me, you were going that way to begin with anyway. e.

If anyone else sees a problem with starting a new wikified version of the Perl history, then I'm sure he/she can say something. This process is optimized for YOUR happiness, Elaine. You may sit back and enjoy our failure, cackling and saying "I told you so!" when our work never fails to materialize. Why would they as the thing has sat there, peacefully, for nearly 10 years. What, did you all run out of projects to run into the ground, jump up and down about before moving on to something else to repeat the process on? > This process is optimized for YOUR happiness, Elaine. Well, if it's as vast and impressive as the P5 wiki at http:// www.perlfoundation.org/perl5/index.cgi?perl_5_wiki, I'm sure that you aren't exaggerating. e.

Who are "you all" in this characterisation? -- Andy Armstrong, Hexten
