As far as I can tell, leafnode does not include those headers in the
overview.fmt database either.

Perhaps INN would do the trick, but from what I gather, it's a XXXXX to
install and configure correctly.

Trying to filter on it generates an error.

Is it the 503 "header not supported" error?

I must have had a different filter that was throwing the error. I just
tested References: again and it is working.

Okay, Easynews wrote back:

So Easynews is out.

I haven't tried them, but there's also databasix.com...

I've been using Giganews for several years through Comcast's bundled
service, and I don't have any problem filtering on References.

I can't filter on Newsgroups, but you can get the same effect by
filtering on Xref. The only significant difference is that group names
are separated by spaces instead of commas.

Change it to filter on Xref. Change any commas in the filter to spaces
and it should work fine.

Yeah, I think I'd give up Usenet forever first.

I have some good news.

I just remembered I had a free Tera News account I used a year or so
ago, and decided to see if it was still active. It was.

I am happy to report that all of my MT-NewsWatcher filters work with the
free Tera News account. : )

Tera News free accounts are limited to 50 megabytes of transfers per
day. Free accounts that reach that limit are deactivated until the next
day. They do offer pay accounts, with increased daily and monthly
download limits. More information here:
