Brand names as well as ownerships can be sold, and have been sold to
"interests" not connected with where the brand names originated.
Besides Jaguar having a poor reliability history, Land Rover also had
reliability problems, too. Ford got rid of dogs.

Brands? I have seen Everready, Maganavox, Sylvania, and ownerships or
_rights_ of many other brand names show up in WSJ articles as being
used by all maner of foreigners. One of the big movie studios and, I
think, Westinghouse, are now Japanese companies. I do not follow this
in detail but the economists and bankers all tell us that its nothing
unusual.

IBM's PC division was sold off to Lenovo, a Chinese corporation
although it was not exactly a transfer of ownership but the sale of
rights and governance and some formula for sharing profits (probably
most profits go to Lenovo). So, when you see thinkpads out there, its
basically a Chinese company.

Going back long ago, the East India Company was a British corporation
set up to manage the imperialist administration of India, the country.
You might be interested to know that there were at least five to six
other "East India Companies" all chartered as corporations by their
own home countries (France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium,
Netherlands, and couple others), so there was a German East India
Company, a Netherlands East India Company, etc. My source on this was
the Encyclopedia Britanica.

Oh yes, but Jag and LR have always been known as English brands as much as
Royals Royce is

Funny, I've never heard of the English auto brand "Royals Royce". If
proficiency in one's native language is an indicator of attention to
detail and quality, and if you are representative of the average
American, it's hardly surprising that the American business edge is
eroding. Btw, Jaguar and Land Rover are not English brands: they are
British brands. It doesn't surprise me that you do not know the difference.

If TATA can't market any better than you can use the English language,
those two brands will be on the market again in the not too distant
future.
